Great Things Never Come From Comfort Zones

July 19, 2016

If you asked me a year ago if I’d move to the other side of the world by myself I would never in my wildest dreams say yes! I’m naturally a shy person. I like to be surrounded by familiar things, faces and places so when I was offered this position in Mallorca, I didn’t know what to do with myself. I didn’t actually think I would get the job! I went through a range of different emotions from IM MOVING TO AN ISLAND IN THE MEDITERRANEAN!!!! To full on I don’t want to go ugly cry breakdowns.

Moving overseas by yourself is scary even for the most confident of people. Mallorca’s a place I’ve never been to before, I didn’t know anyone, the culture or very much of the language. I was completely throwing myself into the deep end hoping I could keep myself afloat and it’s the best decision I could have ever made! My self-confidence has grown, I’m comfortable with who I am and what I look like, I can walk into a room and start a conversation with a stranger, order from a Spanish menu and navigate the public transport system without having a total freak out.

If you’re considering moving overseas or applying for a position abroad just do it! Have a bit of faith in yourself and you’ll love every moment, I can promise you that. You will make great friends, find your new favourite places, have crazy adventures and create memories you’ll keep forever.
